Verification did not work

The usual reasons a check fails and how to fix each one.

Work through this list in order.

  1. Wait and retry. DNS changes can take minutes to spread. You can press Check verification once per minute.
  2. Compare the value. Copy it again from the portal. Look for a stray space, a missing character or the wrong name. DNS: the name is _tasscan, not your full domain twice.
  3. Check the right host. A record on www.example.com does not verify example.com. We never follow a redirect to a different host. If your bare domain redirects to www, add www as its own asset or use DNS TXT.
  4. Meta tag: is it really in the HTML? View the page source. Tags added by JavaScript, or that sit in a comment or a script, are not counted.
  5. Does the page load for everyone? A login wall, a country block or a firewall rule that blocks unknown visitors will stop the check. The file or page must be publicly readable over HTTPS or HTTP.
  6. Behind a CDN or proxy? Make sure the file or page is served from the same content you edited, not an older cached copy.
